Origin

Senna plant is grown natively in Egypt and near Sudan. It is also notably grown in Somalia and India(Rajasthan, Gujarat and Kutch in Western India).

Preparation

Sennosides are extracted from either Senna leaves or pods. Leaves contain usually more than 2% content whereas pods have more than 3% content.

Applications

Senna is a very effective laxative and is useful in improving constipation.
